Jelev, 1990- 1997 y\u0131llar\u0131nda demokrasi yolunu se\u00e7en Bulgaristan\u2019da cumhurba\u015fkan\u0131 g\u00f6revini yapt\u0131. Deftere taziyelerini ilk bildirenler aras\u0131nda T\u00fcrkiye\u2019in Bulgaristan B\u00fcy\u00fckel\u00e7isi S\u00fcleyman G\u00f6k\u00e7e ve K\u0131br\u0131s El\u00e7isi Stavros Avgustidus oldu.
